Farm info:
La Union, situated in the northern part of the Narino department in southern Colombia, benefits from a diverse climate due to its proximity to the Andes Mountain range.
Strategically located in the Upper Canyon of the Patia River region, La Union is traversed by the Mayo and Juanambu rivers.
The combination of its diverse climate, topographical features, and the presence of these water sources create an optimal environment for coffee cultivation. The climate ranges from cold in the upper areas, temperate in the expansive middle region, to warm in the lower zones. The varying climate zones provide suitable conditions for different coffee varieties, while the river courses contribute to the overall richness of the volcanic soil.
The economic foundation of La Union is firmly rooted in coffee cultivation, playing a crucial role in driving local prosperity with coffee being cultivated in 40 out of the 45 villages, boasting a total of 4438 farms. Each producer maintains a washing station on their farm creating a decentralised processing approach that not only underscores the integral role of coffee in shaping the local economy, but also highlights the hands-on involvement and commitment of individual growers to quality throughout every stage of production.
